Bachelorette parties are seen as the bride’s last hurrah to singlehood, so naturally you’ll want to have as awesome a night as possible. We have a few suggestions …
By the time you’ve read this, the Material World team would have returned from founder Deborah’s wedding in Penang. The wedding party was certainly epic, but the hens party we organised for her the week before was no snoozer either.
Because Deborah has always said she wants her hens night to be held at The Pump Room, we knew we had to have our party there. Before the party, The Pump Room’s Customer Relations & Marketing Manager Katie kindly arranged a booth seat for us in the VIP area. She even cordoned off the area with a huge bunch of balloons. Tip: If you’re planning on throwing a hens night party at The Pump Room, give the Customer Relations team a heads-up so they can prepare the necessary legwork. Plus, if you let Katie know beforehand, she can even help get balloons and a cake. The Pump Room Hens Night Package entitles you and your girlfriends to one bottle of wine, one bottle of spirits, and an exclusive booth seat to yourselves. Once you’ve got the venue down pat, how do you ensure your bride has a memorable night out?
1. Be Selective About Who You Invite
Hens parties can become a bummer real quickly when people have different ideas of what constitutes a good time. Some women prefer having drinks and heart-to-heart conversations with close friends, whereas others may be more geared toward a raucous good time. The important thing is to figure out what does the bride want, then invite friends of hers who you know are on the same page when it comes to having fun.
2. Plan Fun Activities
Denise, Lili, and I came up with a long list of “tasks” for Deborah to do (some of which are not fit for publishing!) but the one thing we knew she definitely had to do was get up onstage to sing.
The Pump Room’s resident band Culture Shock is a seven-piece outfit that belts out everything from top 40s to rock & roll and even funk. When we were there, the band was lively and energetic, and had the crowd whooping and dancing within the first couple of songs.
Katie had informed the lead vocalist that we wanted Deborah to go up and sing, but I was impressed how he took the trouble to come to our table to find out more about Deborah before calling her up onstage. True to form, Deborah soon had the entire club shimmying along to Selena Gomez’ “Love You Like A Love Song”!
3. Always Take Care Of The Bride
Yes, people will be plying her with drinks all night and you’ll probably be drinking your fair share too. But as her BFF, you’ll need to ensure you drink responsibly. If you think she may be drinking too quickly, get her water so she can hydrate herself. And once she’s done for the night, you and your other girlfriends need to be on standby to send her home. In fact, it would be even better if you could stick around for a bit to ensure she’s truly a-okay.
And that, my friend, is how to conduct a successful hens night party!
The Pump Room is located at 3B River Valley Road, #01-09/10 The Foundry, Clarke Quay. To make reservations, email Katie (email@example.com).
