Let me the first to admit that I have only slightly more than a passing interest in fashion. I love looking at beautiful clothes, but my own style tends to be quite predictable and one-dimensional. Still, that doesn’t stop me from poring through style websites at the start of each new season, so I know what to expect at high-street stores in the coming months.
And I think it’s pretty admirable that some people think Singapore could potentially be a fashion capital in the near future. When I attended the press conference for Fashion Week 2013 at Marina Bay Sands yesterday, there was a huge turnout of media and a palpable sense of excitement in the air,
This year’s Fashion Week will see an exciting lineup of exciting fashion shows over 10 days, from October 9 to October 19. These include five Men’s pret-a-porter shows, three Japanese couture shows, three Japanese couture shows, seven Asian couture shows, three French haute couture shows and four Women’s pret-a-porter shows.
It’s great to see Asian designers feature so heavily in the lineup. Asian designers that will be showcasing their wares (and the ones you have to know) include Guo Pei (China), Lie Sang Bong (South Korea), Junko Koshino (Japan) and Singapore’s very own Frederick Lee.
Even more exciting is the fact that well-loved local online fashion store Love Bonito has collaborated with renowned couturier Julien Fournie to create a special capsule collection.
And yes, members of the public will get to attend these shows. Better yet, tickets are insanely affordable at $20 for a single show; $40 for a full-day pass with access to all shows on the stated day, or a season pass ticket at $280. Grab your tickets at http://www.marinabaysands.com/ticketing.
